Using Trysquare

Using the Trysquare mobile app with or without signal

Sign in to your workspace on a phone, fill in assignments and edit records with no signal, and sort out anything that clashes with the web when you sync.

The Trysquare mobile app is for the people out on site. It keeps your records and assignments on the phone, so inspections can be filled in where there is no signal, and sends everything to the web once there is.

Signing in

  1. Open the app and enter your Workspace address: the first part of the web address you sign in at on the web. If that address starts acme., enter acme. Pasting the whole web address works too.
  2. Tap Continue.
  3. Enter your Email and Password, and tap Sign in.

Forgot your password? and Use a different workspace are on the sign-in screen.

The app wears your workspace's logo, theme and colours.

Finding your way around

The tabs you will use most are:

  • Models: your records, by model. Add, edit and delete them here, with or without signal.
  • Assignments: the work given to you, or on records you can see. Search, and filter by status, category, form, and who it is assigned to.
  • Settings: your workspace and account, sync, and photo storage.

Filling in an assignment

  1. Open the assignment from Assignments and tap Fill in responses.
  2. Answer the questions. Add photo lets you Take photo or Choose from library.
  3. Tap Save in the header.
Tap Save on the phone

Unlike the web, the app saves when you tap Save, not as you go. If you try to leave with answers not saved, it asks whether to discard them or keep editing.

If any answers need fixing, such as a number outside its limits, they are highlighted when you save.

Photos are resized on the phone before they are sent, so they upload quickly on a weak signal.

Moving an assignment on

Tap the move icon on an assignment to see where it can go next. Moves that need every required question answered say how many are left, and moves that ask for a reason say so. The move reaches the web when the phone next syncs.

New assignments are started, and reassigned, on the web.

Working without signal

Everything you do in the app is saved on the phone first: answers, photos, new and edited records, deletions and moves. When the phone is online, the app sends them on its own: straight after each change, when you come back to the app, and when the connection returns. If the server cannot be reached, it keeps trying.

While changes are waiting, the assignment or record says Waiting to sync. To sync by hand, pull down on a list, or tap Sync now in Settings.

When something needs attention

Sometimes a change made on the phone clashes with one made on the web, or the server refuses it. Trysquare never merges these silently. After a sync, a message says how many items need attention, with Review.

  • Changed on the web since you last edited: tap Resolve, and for each field choose On the web or Yours, or use Keep all theirs or Keep all mine. Then tap Apply.
  • This record was deleted on the web: your changes can be discarded.
  • Changed on the web since you deleted it: choose Keep it or Delete anyway.
  • Not saved: the server refused the change. Edit it and try again, or discard it.
  • Photo not uploaded: Retry or Discard.

Settings shows the totals: when the phone last synced, changes waiting, conflicts and anything not saved.

Photos and storage

Photos downloaded to the phone are kept up to a limit you choose in Settings, from 250 MB to 2 GB, 500 MB unless you change it. Clear downloaded photos frees the space; photos still waiting to upload are always kept.

Signing out

Signing out removes the records stored on the phone. They stay safe on the server.

If there are changes still waiting, the app asks first, and offers Sync now, Review, or Discard and sign out. You cannot switch to another workspace until your changes have synced.
